The award ceremony recognizes music achievements that are determined by end of year performance metrics on the Billboard charts, like sales, both digital and physical, radio plays and online streams. The compiled metrics honor the music that the public consumed, and collectively loved, the most this year.

The awards will be airing on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. CST.

The finalists for the evening’s top award include Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, SZA, The Weeknd, Drake and Zach Bryan.
Taylor Swift is the top finalist with 20 nominations. Following swiftly behind Swift are country singer Morgan Wallen and R&B performer SZA with 17 nominations each.
Runner-ups include: The Weeknd with 16, Drake and Zach Bryan with 14, Luke Combs with 10, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and Miley Cyrus with nine, Beyoncé and Rema with seven, Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma with six nominations.
Other nominees include Ariana Grande, David Guetta, Eslabon Armado, Karol G, NewJeans and Selena Gomez, all with five nominations.

What is different about this year’s Billboard Music Awards?
Billboard says this year’s show will be a little different.
Without giving away too much, Billboard announced that the show’s concept will include exclusive content like the artists’ performances, winner celebrations and behind-the-scenes moments.
But this year’s show also feature a new collaboration between the BBMAs and Spotify ‘Fans First,’ which will bring fans up close to their favorite artists at performances all around the world.
Performances and award celebrations for the BBMAs will take place in global locations, even at sold-out tours.
Spotify and Billboard worked to identify the biggest fans of particular artists by studying their metrics. They were able to find the fans that voraciously consumed hours of their top artists’ music and were part of the crowd that drove the performers to the top of the Billboard Charts.
Then, the two companies provided these fans with golden tickets that will allow them access to performances from their favorite artists.
Viewers can tune into the awards on Sunday to see how the new partnership plays out, watch a night of lively performances and see their favorite artists gain recognition for their hard work this year.
