Akuffo Addo is a lame- duck president- speaker of parliament

1 min read

The current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, called President Akufo-Addo a “lame-duck President.” This is because Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia became the new flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Bagbin also said that the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, is facing challenges because some NPP members have shifted their loyalty.

Alban Bagbin expressed disappointment in the Majority Leader for not ensuring the presence of NPP members during an important budget debate. Bagbin compared his performance to “limping,” suggesting that he’s not doing well in managing his party members in Parliament. This is important because it affects the ability of the government to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

To solve this issue, Bagbin urged the Majority Leader to cooperate with the Minority side in Parliament. He believes that without this collaboration, the legislative process will face difficulties. Bagbin emphasized the need for unity, stating that the Majority needs support to complete the remaining years of President Akufo-Addo’s term. He also pointed out that with Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer, loyalties are shifting away from President Akufo-Addo, making it crucial for the government to work together.
