The former member of parliament for Ledzokuku constituency Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has supported fisher folks in his constituency with an amount of Ghs30,000 during their one month closed season observation.

Few months ago, the fisheries and aquatic minister, Hawa Koomson assured the country that the one month close season has come to stay even though she admitted times are hard. The idea is to give fisher men a break and also allow the reproduction of young fishes.

The Minster for fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Haws Koomson stated that close season is backed by law in Ghana and has come to stay as a stock recovery strategy. She made this statement when she joined the chiefs and people of Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region to officially open the sea for 2022/2023 fishing season.

These and many more reasons why Dr. Okoe Boye is showing this benevolent act of giving out Gh30,000 to fisher folks who are observing the one month closed season this July. The amount will help subsidize their expenses during this period and also support their business.

Dr. Oko Boye was named as part of the 17-member Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in 2021. Dr. Oko Boye also adopted what he called the 5D Strategy which has helped the management and Board. He is a very forward-thinking person who has brought a lot of transformational changes in the NHIA.

His support to the fisher folks is just a testament of his love for humanity despite not being the MP. We pray for him and wish him more success ahead.
