2 min readThe Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed optimism that the Black Stars will reach the World Cup finals if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, is elected as President. Wontumi attributes this belief to Bawumia’s vision for sports, citing the construction of over 180 astroturfs across the country as evidence of his commitment to sports development.
In an exclusive interview on Adom FM, Chairman Wontumi emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s proactive approach, highlighting his role in initiatives like NABCO, aimed at addressing youth unemployment. Wontumi sees Bawumia as an “action man” who, if elected, will not only create employment opportunities for the youth but also contribute significantly to the advancement of sports in the country.
Wontumi drew attention to the substantial increase in astroturfs during the NPP’s tenure, asserting that when they came to power, there were only two, but now there are about 180 nationwide. He expressed confidence in Bawumia’s passion for sports, predicting that under his leadership, the nation would witness a remarkable performance in the World Cup, even reaching the final. Wontumi believes that Bawumia’s leadership will work miracles for the country’s sports development.
As the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections with Dr. Bawumia as their candidate following his victory in the primaries, the Black Stars are gearing up for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, set to commence against Madagascar and Comoros.
