Police arrest suspect for stealing again two months after leaving prison
2 min readA middle-aged man identified simply as Omoniyi has been arrested by operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command for alleged burglary and stealing.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday told Tribune Online at the weekend that the suspect was arrested after he allegedly burgled two residential buildings along Ilawe road of the state capital and made away with property including N25,000.
He revealed that the arrest of the suspect was coming two months after he was released from the prison custody for a similar offence of stealing.
According to the PPRO, “Investigation revealed that the suspect burgled the two houses alongside his gang members and stole items such as one generator, three seater chair, food stuffs, 12Kg gas cylinder, rug, two side bedstools, clothes and a cash sum of #25000.
“Upon his arrest, some of the stolen items were recovered from him.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect was released from prison custody about two months ago after committing a similar offence, arrested, arraigned and sentenced to an imprisonment term.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed to have sold some of the stolen items.Effort is on top gear for the possible arrest of some of his gang members.”
He commended the citizens for their support to the command by providing timely information to the police on activities of criminal elements in their communities.
“The Command will continue to work round the clock during and after these EMBER months for the sustainability of the current peaceful atmosphere across the State,” he said.
