African Players in Europe: Kudus leads the way as Osimen misses out
2 min readGhanaians Jeffrey Schlupp and Mohamed Kudus were the other African scorers in the Premier League. Schlupp put Crystal Palace ahead in a 2-0 win at Burnley, but a superb Kudus goal was in vain as West Ham United fell 3-2 at Brentford. Here, AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:
ENGLAND
OLA AINA (Nottingham Forest)
Defender Aina, 27, opened the scoring for Forest in their impressive 2-0 win against in-form Aston Villa, side-footing home.
MOHAMMED KUDUS (West Ham Utd)
Ghana’s attacking midfielder Kudus scored West Ham’s first goal in their defeat at Brentford. The 23-year-old produced an outstanding acrobatic strike for his second Premier League goal to level the scores at 1-1.
JEFFREY SCHLUPP (Crystal Palace)
Ghana midfielder Schlupp, 30, scored his first goal of the season in a win for Crystal Palace at Burnley, slotting home after a cross from fellow Ghana international Jordan Ayew.
SPAIN
INAKI WILLIAMS (Athletic Bilbao)
Ghana international Williams continued his superb start to the season with a goal in Athletic’s thrilling 3-2 La Liga win over Villarreal. The forward received the ball on the edge of the box, turned and arced an effort beyond the outstretched arm of Filip Jorgensen to put his team three goals ahead.
YOUSSEF EN-NESYRI (Sevilla)
The Morocco target man netted his fourth goal of the season to snatch Sevilla a late 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo. En-Nesyri reacted quickest when a Celta defender miscontrolled the ball in the box and quickly stabbed it into the net. Three of En-Nesyri’s goals have come in the last five league games.
