Interschool sports and grassroots football must be taken serious to change fortunes of our national teams – Hon Kobena Mensah Woyome

The ranking member on sports committee Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has spoken following Ghana’s abysmal performance at the ongoing CAF U-23 AFCON in Morocco.
The Black Meteors were humiliated in Morocco by placing 3rd place in their group. They were outclassed by Morocco and Guinea who advanced to the semi-finals with Morocco eventually booking its place in the 2024 Olympics tournament.
Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome after his visit to Morocco during the tournament shared his experience and observation on Sompa FM. The ranking member for sports indicated Ghana’s lack of focus on interschool games and academies are a major concern. “We have to make sure our school sport is really working, we seem to just be talking about it without giving it oxygen to fly, what is taking us so long I don’t know, we need to identify the schools, our communities and the academies” he added.
The Ghanaian national teams have performed poorly these few years with the black stars being humiliated at the AFCON last year before suffering another embarrassment at the World Cup in Qatar. Both the youth teams and the female teams have not lived up to expectations over the years.
Could this be the main reason we are under performing despite the talents at our disposal?
